Theoretical Link - Stuart Hall: representation
Hall states that stereotyping tends to happen when there are inequalities of power. In my show you can see that different opinions are shown with emotions. Some emotions we see are the reaction to the stereotypes which make some of my characters feel like they are associated with an action that is negative ie. being lazy. However we do see a change of one person, Abbie who states that stereotypes of millennials are actually positive show in her in a good light and presents herself as powerful.
Theoretical Link - David Gauntlett: representation
Gauntlett theories of identity - using media texts to help us create our identity as well as finding our 'sense of self'. As we can see in my show stereotypes are what create millennials and their own identities. Furthermore, Gerbner's theory that television is responsible for our perception of day-to-day norms and reality. We see this theory in action when Max describes millennials as being highly offended due to the use of social media.
